Vybz Kartel Jackson? WTF?

27 Jan

Seems Vybez Kartel, one of my favourite dancehall artists now fancies himself as the Michael Jackson of Jamaica. WTF? Can someone slap some sense into that boy asap? Vybz appears to be much lighter than he was an year ago and admits to using a skin lightening product.

In response to the bleaching allegations, Vybz had this to say, “This is my new image.  You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.” SMH.

He looks like the grim reaper to me!! We love his music but this foolery is threatening to overshadow all the has worked for. Its amazing what goes on in people’s minds.

Apparently he has been using his new cake soap and had this to say to the haters, “I’m my own man, and as such I do my own thing. When black women stop straightening their hair and wearing wigs and weaves, when white women stop getting lip and butt injections and implants, when bald men stop getting hair transplants, and when people stop getting nose jobs and cosmetic surgery then I’ll stop using the ‘cakesoap’ and we’ll all live naturally ever after. Until then F**k you all.”

Huh? When will black people get de-colonized in their minds?

Before and after shots of the “Bicycle” singer.

before MJ-Syndrome struck! UglyAss Motha!

You know, I hate to say it, but he has a point. Lightening his skin is very similar to all the ladies who struggle with relaxer and weaves trying to get silky smooth, shampoo-ad type hair. I’m sure lots of those ladies would hotly protest any accusations of trying to appear white. They might say they’re experimenting with their looks or following a trend or just expressing themselves. Vybez’ option is a bit extreme, but at the end of the day, he has the right to do what he wants to his image.

hehe decolonized sounds a bit harsh, hes just pursuing what he belives is his avenue to happniess, i believ biko calls it hedonism, but nice post

I don’t think its very harsh, this guy and many other black people think white people are superior and want to be just like them. Its that colonization thing, it done messed up our minds. Thanks though, karibu hapa 🙂
